Magic Show

Anyone caught much of the live telecast of the Umno General Assembly proceedings?

It was something else, wasn't it?

Luckily there was Pak Lah to show that the Umno president was above all that bullshit.

Pak Lah, who, in the words of Lim Keng Yaik, stressed that "Umno must speak for all":

"We are 100 per cent supportive of Pak Lah (Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi). Pak Lah is the PM for all Malaysians. He is the chairman of the Barisan Nasional for all races."

Lim said ... Abdullah had shown that he was a strong leader by speaking for all Malaysians.

"When he speaks of the country, he speaks of the country for all Malaysians. Gerakan supports him fully.

"Gerakan endorses the full support that Umno gave him at the assembly.

"We hope Malaysians will listen to Pak Lah rather than what has been said by some delegates at the Umno assembly.

"Listen to Pak Lah. Give our full support to Pak Lah because he will lead us to greater heights by providing the atmosphere, the environment for national unity and understanding." [New Straits Times]

Pak Lah, who, in the words of Ong Ka Ting, stressed that "no one race can rule this country alone":

Ong said in reminding Umno to be fair and sensitive to other races, Abdullah had demonstrated the spirit of a leader.

He said MCA would continue to support Abdullah and work with him to maintain consensus and co-operation between Barisan Nasional component parties.

He called on all races to boost the country’s economy, rather than quarrel over matters that could be solved amicably. [New Straits Times]

Remember what Pak Lah said on the eve of the General Assembly?

“There won’t be any restriction on delegates to bring up issues as long as they are not sensitive to other Barisan component parties,” Abdullah told reporters after the meeting at the PWTC here.

He said members must be very careful and remember that Umno was given the mandate to lead the coalition by its members.

“I reminded all party members that they must take into account the views of other component parties when raising the issues. They must be fair and just in their comments.

“They must avoid adverse reactions from component party members that could damage racial harmony,” he said, adding that all quarters must be aware each other's sensitivities. [The Star]

So what happened?

The delegates obviously didn't give two hoots about Pak Lah's advice.

Obviously.

But wait a minute. If I'm not wrong, the speeches are vetted at multiple levels beforehand.

The delegates rarely stray in any significant manner from the approved text.

And isn't it ironic that the first time all the action is brought to you live on TV is when the Hidup Melayu rhetoric is turned up full blast?

So what do we have here?

You tell me.

The blood letting isn't going to get us anywhere. Not for the non-Malays, neither for the Malays. If anything at all, the investors will probably have second thoughts.

The undercurrents are strong, Aisehman. Our Weak Leader could not swim against the tide, or he will be really a one-term leader. When the economic pie isn't growing, frustrations will boil over. It is nothing more than a zero sum game, and giving one race something extra is taking away that something from the other races.

Tuan,

I think we have learnt to accept the UMNO general assemblies as their “syok-sendiri” sessions for the wannabes to wave their krises to impress. What is different this time is that their ‘playing-with-themselves” is being done in full view of Malaysian public and possibly the whole world. It does seem as if they didn’t care on whom they splash and splatter their expletives as long as they get their satisfaction.

As a Malaysian and a Malay I am totally embarrass by the crasness of it all. They can say that the extreme shouting is to vent their frustrations and done within their own “house”. But if you decide to broadcast and telecast your so-called “domestic” ramblings, shouldn’t you exercise some control over what you say within the public’s earshot?

By the same token, will the MCA or MIC assemblies be accorded the same broadcast privileges? Will they too be given immunity from possible seditious utterings?

On another matter over the same session, I think Hishamuddin Hussein Onn should give up his Education Minister’s post if he wants to continue playing the Malay Ultra role. Now that we trying to foster better racial understanding through our school curriculum, it does not help to have the incumbent Education Minister as a poor example of racial tolerance and moderation.

Let those ppl go on in their rhetoric as long as they want and waste their energies. They would gain nothing. The other Malaysian should continue to makes more money and enjoy life.

What I find interesting is that ever since GA, we are seeing more and more posting from bumiputeras against the GA speeches. This blog posting has actually been pretty mild compared to some others.

For the first time, Anwar reply on the GA is getting more attention. He was literally hounded by the press to give a reply.

There is an opportunity here for the PM to reform UMNO if he is smart enough. Go to the polls soon and UMNO/BN will have a pretty big setback. After that, the post-mortem will tell that a big factor will be the GA speeches. The PM then can use it to hammer home a reform agenda.

For the first time in a long time, the respond by bumiputera AGAINST UMNOputras is stronger than I have ever seen since Anwar was kicked out.. But this time the non-bumiputera will not come to their aid..

Year in, year out I see two parallel dialogues passing each other like ships in the night. On one side, rights and entitlements become the only thing paramount with no acknowledgement towards the abuses and effects of those demands.

On the other side, indignation - woe be the emigres at the hands of feral natives who want to take away the wealth that they've built for themselves.

Then the communal bashing begins by both sides along with the spectators themselves, replete with derogatory usage of 'kampung', 'keris', etc. as if kampungs and keris' collectively are the source of our problems and as if kampungs and keris' are never to be associated with decent, fair-minded people.

It's like Michael Richards calling hecklers the n-word just because they're disruptive, rude members of the audience who happened to be african-americans.

Are non-kampung chickens more docile and well-behaved than the kampung ones?

I think the only people who can solve our society's problems are those who are genuinely pluralists with no latent bigotry. Find those people & vote them in. The rest of us should not pretend that we have anything meaningful to contribute.

Hear, hear, sihaya.

And with reference to your last paragraph, let's choose independent MPs.

Let us always remember what UMNO or

"UNITED MALAY NATIONAL ORGANISATION"

actually stands for. Scramble the words and you get (Presto!) -

"TRADITIONAL, LOONY, NAUSEATING MANIA"

as demonstrated at their recent General Assembly!

In the mid of 2003, when the ship of UMNO is in danger of sinking, the gang of pirates change a new steward - Mr Pak-L.

Amazed and amussed, (even the gang of pirates themselves), MOST Malaysian get hooked and vote the BN rapist (of citizens) to formed another term of Government for Malaysia.

DON'T blame BN gangs. It is you yourself get allured to the election manifesto. These politician make VERY clear to you. IT IS A ELECTION MANIFESTO. Believed it at your own RISK.

NOW in 2006. The UMNO gang's representative (Mr Pak-L) told the General Assemble rapist not to f**k non-malay to hard (read:so that UMNO rapist can still f**k the non-malay some other times and at any times UMNO want).

The victim (non-malay like OKT and SamyV) applaud and said with relief - see we have the head rapist who told his gang not the f**k us to hard.

The moral of the above is simple.

DON'T get swing. Malaysia NEED a completed change of Government.

Not because Mr PakL is not good. It is the ENTIRE organisation of political root that need complete change over. Good intention is never enough.

Vote To Change.
