Family Matters
They're here:
The son and father of Altantuya Shaariibuu @ Aminah, the Mongolian freelance model who was killed in a gruesome murder two weeks ago, arrived in Malaysia Thursday.According to a police source, the boy, who is now 16-months old, and her father together with about 10 other family members arrived at the KL International Airport (KLIA) at about 6pm.
However, they managed to evade a horde of pressmen including from Bernama who had gathered at the airport since early Thursday evening until 10pm to interview the family.
It is learnt that the family members were led out of the airport's arrival hall through another exit to avoid the media and also for security reasons.
A check with City Police at 11pm found that the police had recorded statements from the family members at 8pm. [Bernama]
I hope we Malaysians don't make it harder than it already is for them.
The media should give them some space.
One important thing to remember is that Atlantuya is the victim, not the perpetrator, of a murder.

The behaviour of the press in such cases is why Journalism is no longer a noble profession. The commercial need for sensationalism especially in a restricted press regime like Malaysia relegate the duty of a journalist to mostly about prostitution of news and information and at best marginally still serving the public and social interest.

Victimising the victims, this is what we always see in our politics scene.

Let us show to the Mongolians and the whole world that Malaysians are a civilised and gracious people despite the heinous acts committed by some despicable Malaysians. We need to show the world we abhor such acts as all civilised people do by doing the right things including giving the family space and time to grieve.

I disagree. They are trying to determine if the body belongs to the model and not to check the baby's paternity (not yet, at least I believe). Once the remains are established to be Altantuya's beyond any doubt, there should be a formal declaration and commencement of investigation.
Issues of motive will have to be linked to the death and killing. I hope the investigation will be fair and transparent, without wild allegations and accusations from the media. I think it will be in the victim's father's best interest to be silent about it at this stage, as most probably at the behest of the foreign embassy and the government. However, her father deserve to be heard and given a voice in the media to tell his side of the story minus the spin. I hope her father has a good lawyer to see through the paternity check later when the need arises, with repeated tests and controlled samples. If allegations of her promiscuity and alleged blackmail surfaces, the only defence she would have would be her father and friends, at this moment. Already, all kinds of things are being said.
We must remember that even the alleged suspects and criminals deserve a chance to say their piece, and this applies in this case.

Already, reports in the press claims to have taken blood samples by the three suspects to be matched with the crime scene.
I wonder, what is the defence lawyer's gameplan?

Hmmm, the information at this early stage is still very hazy. Other sources mentioned that the baby isn't here because he/she is sick. The victim's father and uncle is here (with the mother's blood sample).
So clearly, it isn't going to be a paternity test for the baby, but more to identify the body.
The speculations are amazing and honestly, quite far reaching in implications. I wish her family the truth and justice they deserved.

Somehow I feel that Altantuya demise is very unfair, and NOT to her. She should have known the consequences of an affair, what more with a man who is prominent in his own country. She was beautiful, smart and independent. Apparently not so smart to avoid an uneccessary relationship like this. To put her family to the grief of her death was inconsiderate of her. Although he probably didn't think she would end up that way.
Her family never deserved the consequences of her own adult decision.
For the father's sake, I hope the body is not hers. The analyst should have been able to analyse his own steps as well. Unfortunate we humans are so unpredictable. Sigh. Whoever is behind this, i hope justice gets them.
