Still At The Cleaners
Okay. Follow me closely on this one ... all the way:
22. Q: You are known as Mr Clean and Mr Nice Guy. Sometimes that intention is disrupted because of business interests. Besides KJ (Khairy), your son Kamaluddin is also in business and has he misused or taken advantage of his relationship with you to excel in his business?A: Kamal has never used his relationship with me to advance in business. His business is in a field which only has two companies in the world. Of the two integrated oil companies, one is in the US (United States) and the other is his. He is not involved in many other companies and he operates overseas. [The Star]
The "business" Pak Lah is referring to is the drilling mud business.
And indeed, Scomi via its subsidiary KMC Oiltools is one of only a few -- read this post and the reader comments (especially) that I put up almost a year ago.
But that's just one portion of Scomi's overall business. What about the other shit the company is involved in?
Scomi is certainly not one of "only two companies in the world" in those sectors.
AND ALSO read this comment from a reader, also published nearly a year ago:
Indeed in the business of drilling mud in Malaysia, there is only Scomi through KMC.There used to be Schlumberger and BHI (Baker Hughes) as well, but their market share dwindled until it was not profitable to stay in the drilling mud business in Malaysia.
The reason why until now there is no other player in Malaysia is simple: AP.
Yes, you read me right - Approved Permit.
A very vital component to drilling mud is a element called barium sulfate, or better known as barite. It is a weighing agent of a specific gravity, based on API specs.
Now this barium sulfate used to be mined locally, but deposits are negligible. There are only 2 players that supply barite here: KMC and Trenggo Minerals, a subsidiary of M3nergy Bhd.
Barite is now mostly imported, thus you need an AP.
The key here is that MITI does not allow anyone else to import barite. So both KMC and Trenggo are protected.
KMC ventured further downstream to drilling mud, whereas Trenggo is comfortable in processing barite and supplying it to those who need it.
The relationship between KMC and Trenggo is anyone's guess.
This info is publicly available: Just call MITI and ask what the import conditions for barium sulfate are.
To get barite import and mining figures, see the annual yearbook from the Minerals and Geoscience Department. [Aisehman.org]
M3nergy is a good company. Its highest ranking executive is executive vice-chairman Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi, who happens to be the UMNO treasurer.
So what is my point here?
I urge you to look at the big picture.
Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi promised us really good shit at the beginning ... really good shit.
But what have we got so far? Well, the players might have changed, but essentially, more of the same.
The gall of it all is we're being told to adjust our lifestyle in the face of tougher living conditions. Our standard of living has not improved in the last three years. In fact, for many of us, it's gotten worse.
So while we slog, the members of the power elite not only hardly break sweat, they carry on screwing us.
The government does not belong to these people.
The government belongs to us. We decide.
Fucking remember that, all of you.

Aisehman, for this post alone, I salute you in digging all this shit. Man, I am all fucked up!!

Hiya Aisehman...
After reading all the rebuttals and counterstatements(until today, at least), In my darndest of opinions , I conclude that round 2 of this 'spat between elephants' goes to ..... TDM, by default!!!!!! AAB and SIL simply can't grasp the issues festering at the moment. I am so dissed by SIL because he said enuff oredi,.. gotta handle other worthy causes.. How arrogant can one get? Masa berucap berdegar-degar, kononnya nak 'telanjangkan sikit2'...Hampeh... Lain ditanya, lain dijawab,TDM tanya govt, dia volunteer jawab. Before anyone can substantively rebut his ramblings, he said he has said enuff. Apa ni Khairy?..pontianak bit off your tongue?
And Paklah, tolonglah...tolonglah jangan spin sangat.. U were a good man , but i think your cabal will be your Waterloo...

wow, just investigation.... but what alternative is there? Anwar? who would trust. DAP, the Malays dont trust. PAS, not many of us non muslim would trust.
Status quo until the cake gets eaten up and we all left with the crumbs?

Ah, aisehman,
So there is a lot of behind-scene wayang going on for years which I am ignorant of. No wander Pak Lah said he still need the Fat Lady's "experience & expertise". Glad to read all you bloggers news. I really praise & taibeh you guys like RPK,Joi,LimKS & others. Please keep it up.
Knowing the Truth really hurt, but it's better than an ignorant sucker being repeated screwed by our government and still have to say thank you & bershukor to them.

A different sticky hand in the cookie jar. Gawd BN needs to lose a few state legislatures and have their federal majority chipped away.
The cookies should bite.
cheers

In previous elections, I had not bothered to cast any vote as I felt that whichever candidate contesting was either full of nonsense or half filled with utter rubbish who would eventually be making asses of us in the august house of parliament.
With the current schools of monkeys of differing species shaking a variety of tropical trees, and the deafening silence of the chief monkey
( unlike Sun Wu Kung ), despite the continuing constant static, I promised myself that I have to cast my vote in the next GE. This is my idea, my choice, my commitment. Serious, guys, not teh tarik talk la.
Our children need a better life than now. This government is not doing enough to ensure that they ( our children ) would have a better life. I don't want to see that they ( our children ) have to adjust their lifestyles downwards to ensure that this crop of monkeys maintain their own elegant & eloquent lifestyles.
It's sickening and we are suffering. Why?
Just waiting impatiently for answers to, among other issues :
Transparency in the procurement systems ( open tender promise ) ;
Arresting corruption - what levels and what status now ;
Talk to me & Work with me - how dah when you refuse to listen to our pleas or take any prolonged and positive action, except for quick media fixes & photo ops ;
Accountability & serious revelations - bridge issue, mv agusta issue, proton issue, ap issue ;
Scrap mega projects, make better use of our money - south & north economic pincer moves? - why no international investors seem interested to be involved? oh, malaysia boleh la, but whose liability with internal funds to be used - just some worries la ;
Whose sphere of influence - KJ has no official government position yet can answer some issues as if he is part of government - he is not even chief of umno youth but yet can speak over umno youth's head - cam tu pun boleh ka?
Your TV commercial was a flop, and those who assisted you in organising it should be chopped for confirming that you look like an glocal fool, ini macam tak boleh la - how can the PM be a fool! What foolish nation we are with many fools all over the foolish place. Perhaps only the former PM is no fool, after all!
Remember the story of Nguyen van Thieu who was so eager to hire Jaswant Singh of Bernama to start up a new state news agency..to prop up his positive image...hahahaha...a stale joke, but pertinent!!
Cheers

Thanx aisehman. It aint no small feat - digging up all that shit.

Hmm Y1 you're right. DAP which is the most credible of all the opposition seems to be painted (wrongly) as a Chinese party.
We need more racialy focused parties to be a part of the opposition front. A modern Malay party as a Pas alternative, and an Indian party.
Muhibbah parties are nice, but no one gets more trust than the ones who 'fights for the rights of your race'. Then just bring all of them under one umbrella ala BN.

Bloody depressing state of affairs. I had voted for AAB, just hoping that maybe, just maybe AAB might bring a change from within. Then with the huge mandate, I figured this was a one in a lifetime chance for AAB to act. I screwed myself.

Aisehman is best when he is angry. Good to be angry...purges all toxic from the system. Yes the govt belongs to us. Think about this when election comes around. Time to SHOOT the BN down. And may I borrow Aisehman's quote: "Fucking remember that, all of you. U da man lah Aisehman.

T said "migrate out of here while you can" No way this is my country. I will stand and fight. I dont owe loyalty to the government, I owe loyalty only to my country. Watch it T. I'll take a good shot at you if I catch you with your tail between your legs. If I have run out of bullets, zorro's still got whip.

....tsbdre says connot find alternative!!!!Anwar , stiil adjusting , DAP maybe malays not comfortable, PAS then non malays not confortable so back to UMNO/BARISAN, maybe Tengku Rezaleigh , ex Finance Minister, First Chairman of PETRONAS and Bank Bumiputra and others , have some sound economic and legal training and also some experiance in the goverments under 2 PM's ie, the late Tun Abdul Razak and Tun Hussein Onn, why not give him a try...

Aisehman for PM. He's da man...

I guess, The rich will become richer, the average will be poorer, the poor will makan pasir soon....
Its funny how things are, during TDM, when he wanted to do the Sepang Circuit... a lot of ppl go against it... but now, that circuit bringing in good income on its own and also improve tourism... (Please correct me if i'm wrong...)
Now, generally, this AAB, do things that ppl are against it , similar to TDM administration... do you think in a long run, the outcome would benefit our country? (so far in my mind... none)
Just wondering... please don't flame me :D
peace...

Folks...I am sorry to "potong steam" here...Politicians by definition are corrupt...East or West, all the same. Perhaps the only difference is the degree of corruption or their methodologies. Some go for materials/money while others power and influence. But corrupt all the same.
If you expect Malaysian politicians to be any different, then you must be very naive indeed. If fact if you are a politician and not corrupt either you are very naive or you will be soon an ex-politician. To garner power and influence, you need money...a lots of it.
Though I have a lot of respect for Dr M, but he is the person who brought corruption to a new high (or shall I say a new low) in UMNO and the nation. Until he came into power, UMNO was led by mostly government servants like teachers who were fueled by nationalism and genuine desire to serve the community. However, if you look now, things have changed and UMNO has been "corporatized". People are joining UMNO to make money. This is because Dr M used govt contracts to win political allies and created monopolies as political rewards. Once this genie was out of bottle, then it became uncontrollable. This is why the NEP failed miserably.
How do we change this state of affair ? In my view there is no viable political parties for us to vote as an alternative to BN. I don't even want to consider Anwar as he is a non-starter. PAS and DAP do not have support outside their racial/religious base.
Yes, we can form a truly Malaysian party and vote it into power. In fact I will vote for this party if it ever get formed. But will this ever happen ? It is not simple as it seems. While many are quick to finger point at politicians and others, forget that to change the nation we need to change ourselves first. It starts with you.
Just look around, most Malaysians view issues and act by putting their race and religion ahead of interest their country. How many of us are truly Malaysians first ?? Just read some of the posts here and you will realise the problem that the country faces. It is not just the politicians but we are part of the problem and not the part of the solution.
Let's start to talk about changing us first before kicking these corrupted politicians out. There is absolutely no point to talk about new political leadership for the country when we have not changed ourselves.
Posted by: Tanglimara at August 10, 2006 12:39 AM
So who do we vote for in the next GE?
May I suggest independent candidates in your own constituents chosen by the constituents themselves. Check with resident associations for suitable choices. It's our choice. Use the system to beat the system. Independent candidates donot have to register a political party.
Why leave it to the political parties, BN or BA, to propose their candidates?
It's not easy but what's the alternative. If this idea takes root, the current administration will or may change for the better just to stay in power. Think about it.
And Aisehman, thanks for this post. I remembered there was that AP thing with Scomi but I didn't drilled deep enough in your archives.
Posted by: shar at August 10, 2006 01:35 AM
Someone mentioned about DAP being painted as a Chinese party. I think the reason why it is such is because the non Chinese members (particularly Malays) are not active enough in showing themselves.
Someone also mentioned about a modern Malay and a modern indian party. Sorry but I disagree. So long as we separate ourselves based on our race, we will never be united.
I say just one party with true malaysians from all races in it. That should be the way!
Posted by: hiden iden at August 10, 2006 02:47 AM
Shar...that might be good idea to start with...
I don't have a solution but I would rather talk about actions we can take to make a real change than this endless and useless talk on tales of misdeeds and corruption which will get us nowhere.
Coming to your idea, it has some merits. There is one concern..We get all kind of wackos and political rejects standing at the GE. Those who deserving our votes need to declare their political principles....not some rejects from political parties who had been overlooked as candidates.
Aisheman : AP is not all bad if used in a manner to help real Bumi entrepreneurs and not let some Ali Babas to rip the rakyat off. I have some questions before we can pass our judgement on Scomi. As I understand the APs were given out during the time of Dr M and not Pak Lah's reign. Did Pak Lah had any influence over the AP issue to KMC ? Scomi came into the limelight in Malaysia after Pak Lah came into power. What was Kamal during before then in overseas ? Did he build up his company just purely based on connections and privilaged help (like AP) ? I am not saying you are wrong about Scomi, it just that we need a lot more facts before we can make up our mind...
Posted by: Tanglimara at August 10, 2006 11:05 AM
I remember Kamal associated with a food company...Brahmin? that did a lot of exporting to Middle East...this same company now caters for the national carrier...am I right?....in the loop lah.

Tanglimara,
There are three parts to consider regarding independent candidates:-
1)Giving the power of choice back to the voters, the majority of whom, are not political party members. Each constituent will consist of differing percentages of ethnic groups, a chinese community will have a smaller section of others, and vice versa, in other places. In making a 'wise' choice for a candidate, each constituent will basically exercise democracy in it's truest sense i.e. choosing the right person, man or woman, irrespective of ethnic background, to represent their interests. Ultimately, it will be a person subservient to his/her constituent. You may even consider a rotation option for every GE.
2)Yours and hiden iden's concerns are valid. A multi-racial solution is the way forward, as outlined in 1). In other words, if we cannot even do it on the constituent level by ourselves, don't blame BN or BA for doing what they do. They are just filling the void we have created ourselves. It may start with certain urban areas and spread out to the rural sections in due course.
3)This alternative approach, if given a chance, will make the current BN administration sit up and take notice. They are too accustomed to having an opposition during every GE and know how to manipulate voter sentiments. The same applies to BA. A 'third front' of independents will provide some checks and balances, making the present politicians more amenable to the rakyat. And if we can get sufficient numbers into parliament, perhaps that august house will have more noble beings doing noble deeds for the country.
Hence, as you mentioned, there will be a need for a manifesto meant for independents. "UNITY IN DIVERSITY". Make it work.

hmmmm, remember remember the 5th of november the gunpowder treason and plot i know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.....remember 1998.....they say corruption is everywhere, maybe its just the way things are done thats wrong.....democracy is merely an illusion given to the people that they actually have a say in things, bottom line is big businesses would lobby anyone who'd represent their intrests into power...and we the people would get hoodwinked over and over and over again....it all boils down to the individual(ie political candidates).....the ones who're evil and the ones who're not....hahahahahahaha
