About Me
I started blogging in 2003, several months before Mahathir handed over power to Pak Lah.
From Day One, my blog has largely been used to air my opinions on what I believe to be the unreasonable, the unfair, the untrue and the downright stupid.
I have made mistakes, of which I have admitted to on this blog when the facts tell me that I am wrong, but on balance, there have been many, many more hits than misses.
I have rarely pulled my punches, and many figures of repute, ill or otherwise, have at one time or another given me the honour of expressing my incredulity at their actions or words, atau kedua-duanya sekali.
Pak Lah, Mahathir, Anwar, Samy Vellu, The Fat Lady, KJ, PAS, DAP, UMNO and other, lesser mortals and groups have all been "featured" on Aisehman.org, in either this incarnation or in any, some or all of the previous four (yes, four: First on Blogger, then on Movable Type, followed by TypePad, back to Blogger, and now this).
I have had very few kind words to say of them and I am not on the side of any of them.
No one pays me to run Aisehman.org, and I risk almost everything by publishing my honest opinions on this blog.
I am just an ordinary man, and if there is one thing that I hope to have achieved with this blog, it is that I have raised some of the issues that concern ordinary people like me, in a manner that they approve of.
Have I achieved that? You tell me, please.
It is not easy doing this, and it drains me mentally and physically. Only you can keep the fire burning.

Aisehman, you owe no one an explanation nor an apology.
To quote Tommy Jefferson:" Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government"
I thank you for taking the trouble and risk to keep people like me well informed.

Keeping a blog is a lonely affair. And since most bloggers do not get paid, that takes even more effort and determination on the blogger's part to keep going. That's why I do not have one.
And that's why I 'tapeh' to anyone who can maintain a blog day-in and out. Therefore, please, do not have second doubts about your own worth as far as blogging is concerned.
To save your physical and mental energy, and time most of all, why not write just once a week? That perhaps could lower the stress level?

Aisehman there are very few people left on earth who have not sold their iman. I strongly urge you to continue doing what you have been doing. Pak Lah Tun M are temporal and they too (with us shall pass)like those before us now gone. The quality of life people had under 22 years of Tun`s reign and just about 3 years with Pak Lah speaks volumes. External economic factors are also responsible no denying this. There are plusses and minuses on the leadership of both. As for Pak Lah with the early demise of Madam Endon perhaps brought an effect on him personally. We are after all humans. My plea to the good Tun M and the good Pak Lah it is the peoples interest that comes first. Hopefully this is what the bloggers stand for with no personal agendas of their own. Aisehman you got my endorsement. The internet technology is here to stay. The sooner the leadership understands this the better. Readers are able to access alternative views vide blogs. We the public are not gullible. Just as what the mainstream media prints or broadcast is chewed before a decision is made by the reader either to swallow or spit out,the same goes for blog news. Stop the pressure and threats o the internet medium please. Otherwise we are just sliding down further than half past six. God Bless Aisehman and Malaysia.

Aisehman,
There are many ordinary M'sians out there who are becoming more and more internet savvy. We know how to go on the net to get the information we need now... and I believe this is so good for this country.
I also believe that we need ppl like you to give honest commentary on the state of our country. You may not always be right, but voices like yours give the rakyat a chance to keep our elected officials honest.
What you do is important. Try not to let it get to you, but keep on blogging.

What you are experiencing is the same experience most politicians have in Malaysia - being attacked by powerful fringe interest or in US parlance 'special interest group'. The truth is that most people who agree or behind you don't give you much i.e., the silent majority. That will never change. Doing public work is a sacrifice, its not suppose to be clearly rewarding because if you succeed, the rewards are incredible but it also means failure is the norm or even overwhelmingly the case.
It is a personal issue - whether you believe in what you stand for WITHOUT the rewards. It is hard, testing our faith in others and the societies and groups we belong to. RARELY is it worth it in any immediate ways or ever. That is why its for the few, the exceptional, not the ordinary - for the talented, the genius, and the fools.

Your incognito stance, though, keeps nagging at me. It is akin to someone throwing rocks and then ducking off to a dark corner and hide.
But nevertheless, what you do takes perseverance and discipline. I actually look forward to your blog entry each day.

aisehman, my frank opinion?
you have not achieved your desired goals.
you need to blog on for at least another 3 years to have any chance of making the kind of impact you want to make, man. three years. for the more average bloke, i'd say 10. even jeff ooi is nowhere to those goals.
when some people like kj readily admit that they are liabilities to the society and the country, as you've so many times suggested, then you may tell yourself that you have arrived.
but i don't think they are going to go soon man. and not voluntarily. i think people like you will make them leave. expose them. if bloggers like you can't do it, no one else can.
terus memblog, saudara.

Yes, I think you achieved what you're trying to do. Please continue.
You raised critical questions on pertinent issues that I, an ordinary citizen, may have missed completely with my limited and polluted worldview.
I've long ago lost faith in the mainstream, government controlled, media; they cloud pertinent issues and aggrandize the mundane. It short-circuited your brain, making you dumb.
News blogs like yours keep me in proper perspective, sane and sharp.
Posted by: Ali Agha at August 6, 2006 12:53 PM
Dear Aisehman,
Your motives and intent are yours alone. Some of us consider blogs as public communication space, others use it as a broadcasting station.
Unfortunately, public opinions invite public judgement. You are not your blog, although what you write will be reflected on you as an individual. Many will try to slot you in a peg as a Malay/Muslim/Malaysian blogger, and pigeon hole you in camps you probably didn't know existed. Once that happens, all you will be doing is fire-fighting over superficial associations with your ethnicity, religion and nationality.
But does it matter?
Ultimately Aisehman, you remind us of the climate of fear in this nation. Many of us use pseudonyms to avoid direct attribution to what we write over the internet. That's not because we are cowards hell bent on slander and vicious lies. That's because we are all just too aware of laws in this country that can be used to kill freedom AFTER speech.
It is the message that we are trying to deliver, not building personality cults. Tun Mahathir used Che Det, Usman Awang used many more from Tongkat Warrant to Adi Jaya, and we know most of our authors by their pen name, i.e. Keris Mas, Pak Sako, Arena Wati. Many of our writers during the pre-Independence days started off with pen names as a means of achieving anonymity for protection. Sure, there are others who don't. But having a face to go with the comments do not make it more true or insightful.
The point is, the manner in which you present your opinions requires no defence from me. Everyone is entitled to his/her opinions. If you want to share your opinions, you need a platform, and blogging is one of them. It is not so much about the hits and misses. Errorneous facts can be corrected, inaccurate conclusions can be revised. More importantly, opinions are malleable, not fixed in stone. When you carry your thoughts to the public, you affect our collective conciousness. In turn, our comments, in attempts to register influence from differing perspectives, are made possible.
Many readers will try and tell you that you keep them informed and aware, but the real prize is the generousity of sharing your thoughts on public and current affairs that you believe is worth talking about. Our society has yet to learn to prize the rational voice of dissent. Your entries decide the audience, and to be entirely honest, you have suceeded in staying one notch above the trash that prowls the blogosphere. You avoid sensationalism and by avoiding the echo chambers you are able to offer something different.
This is your space Aisehman. Credibility of a blog rests on the care and caution a blogger takes in maintaining their own principles. You don't need our validation, only our meaningful participation. If I am ever inspired to blog, I look to yours as an example. You took time and effort to do this without seeking material or self serving gains.
Courage is to form your own conclusions, to voice them with conviction and relish in being confronted. You don't need my approval Aisehman, you have my support, immaterial of whether I agree or disagree with what you have written.
Posted by: Chez1978 at August 6, 2006 01:05 PM
Aisehman,
Never do I not find comic relief in your blog - maybe only when you blog on religion where more often than not I share your rage even though we do not have a common faith.
Seldom do I write in to offer words of encouragement. Blame it on apathy. Ex-post rationalise it to an inability to add perspective to what you already wrote. I can’t explain why this ‘tidak apa’ attitude. Neither can I make sense why this lethargy.
What I find so addictive about your blog is you have no axe to grind. You hold no grudges on personalities. You let go a little profanity here and there, but you always pepper a dash of humanity everywhere. In doing so, you personified issues that common people like my friends and I can identify with, even embrace.
You asked: have your postings met the approval of ordinary people? What a stupid question to ask? Excuse my rudeness, Aisehman. I only wish I am as blessed as you are with words.

We need malaysians like you who are willing to fight for the betterment of the country. We are at a stage where good citizens like you have to stand up and fight against the people who thought that they could take us all for a ride.
It is this stage that is most critical, and i thank you for your fight and urge you to continue it.

I have no idea who you are. I always had this thought inside me that maybe you are KJ. I read your blog daily. I am a supporter of your blog(not necessarily the views)and recommend my friends all the time to check out your blog. It is my routine daily that I check my mail, check out news of the EPL,go to Maybank2u daily, listen to BBC Radio on the net, read NYT, Washington Post, the Independent and the Guardian in the morning and weekends as I get up fairly early before I go off to work. Added to that list will be your blog. It is perhaps no2 or 3 in my list. I only read NST or Star later in the evening!!! That means, I rely on your blog for happenings on the local front. I enjoy what you do and appreciate what you do. Tahniah bro! Perhaps it is because what you say at most times reflect what I am thinking(and perhaps people with the same background as me). Reading you maintains my sanity as I know then that I am not crazy thinking what I am thinking about what's happening in our world. Take care man!!

Aisehman,
..."A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do." You just have to do what your conscience tells you. And you've been doing fine raising your voice on these national issues. I can understand doing this is definitely draining on one's mental capacity. But to us, you seem to have the capability to do that. And ideals are ideals, one can't just shut them out and refuse to air them. Just keep doing what you can do and we'll be here to lend you our little voices. Every little voice counts. A multitude of little voices will raise a crescendo....

The biggest thing missing in the Malaysian rubric is the pinning down of how the Malay in the country can coexist with the other races as the world progresses on and there is an increasing call for changes in both mindset and practices.
So far, the political parties have been evasive when conflicts and issues surface; instead of intelligently facing up to these issues squarely, they have been too quick to deny, throw cold water on discussions, deflect, take umbrage and clamp down.
If something that has been perceived to be wrong is blocked in one channel, it will flow to another. The motive force is because no one wants status quo of a bad situation. If arguments that the perception is too negative and slanted, then out with the arguments for or against a retention of it. Rebut the perceptions quickly with full facts and figures, not another set of denials that have no more as solid a foundation as the comments made which had caused the perceptions.
As with forums, the blogging medium provides just such an alternative channel for both comments and rebuttals, and the fact they've become enormously popular speaks volumes of a national need for revival of a Malaysian Conscience that not only embraces the future of a globalized world, but also finds equilibrium to retain by re-fashioning the virtues of what was in the past. And the political parties have been unequal to these tasks. Not the least because there has been so much personal interest involved in governance and not the least because the leaders and administrators of this country, whether they be in federal or state, district or town, portfolios, do not have a learning curve, nor even an inkling as to how important it is to learn from the past in order not to repeat their mistakes in the future.
While things are falling apart due to an extremely low regard for maintenance, while investments are petering out because policies and time have been wasted in pandering to the small picture, while the best brains of the country have been made to leave because of unspoken agendas that are denied on the one hand but practised to full measure on the other at every level of governance, those who know what i am talking about continue to wait for the day to be over so that they can go home and say they have done their best. Really, have they for one minute?
Is the situation really bad? If Mahathir Mohammed can admit that 'figures can be cooked', then you can conclude that they have been cooked. A consequence of cooking figures is that later a price has to be paid when people no longer will believe what you say. Another result is that the rakyat of this country will one day wake up, but too late, to the dire situation that has been hidden from them for too long because those who hold the privilege to them see short-term and think the masses needn't know because if they were to know, dire be to their posts. And that's why today you can have the citizenship situation in Sabah, what more that in Peninsular Malaysia.
Everything is interconnected in this melting pot. If you had switched on your tv yesterday afternoon, you will find one channel discussing religion, another showing artistes singing some songs. Both within the space borders of one community circumscribed by closure to the past and the local. Why not have there be focus documentaries on what's happening in the outside world that affects this community? Why not put these features through to educate this community on how these global trends are already being tackled positively by the other communities working in the same society as this community? Why not show how the other societies have progressed ahead in agriculture, manufacturing, education, lifestyle development, even the upgrading of municipality quality?
It's not so much because other societies have progressed acceleratively. It's because we have stood still, and then proceeded to console ourselves that we've not slided.
Today one reads that by 2020, some 70-80 percent of the population will be urban. If we go by the scenario behind that, it will mean that in a decade's time, more Malaysians will be living in cities providing service for income while the rural areas especially the agricultural sector will see more foreign workers; social identity aside, what sort of special skill sets will the urban Malaysian need to have in order to earn the sort of income if the inflationary pressures visiting us even today may only be expected to be magnified manifold then? And when is the present government going to show it realises the magnitude of the descending problems, when it can only show in the yesterdays that the only filip it can provide for its Private Finance Initiative is to use the EPF money of the rakyat in order to bolster the infrastructure building for one of its Plans, money as you can see, usable only until sixty for the majority?
So i come back to the first part. What are the Malays in this country going to do about the dilemmas they have which have spilled into the other communities, and jeopardise the future of what Malaysia must be in order to survive beyond what the gates of oil will allow?
I haven't read this blog and shouldn't write further here. If i don't write in the other blog after mid next year, expect i would then be already kaput.

Aisehman,
I think the majority of us Malaysians are lazy to act refuse to be proactice in the political sphere unless pushed into a corner. Perhaps we are too selfish in fulfilling our own wants first and do not care about the society that has nurtured and given us the opportunity to thrive.
I admire your tenacity and strength to give us collective voices that individually, we may be too feeble to voice out aloud.

Bloggers like you have spoken our malaysian minds so often. Not every Malaysian is gifted with the ability to express his/her thoughts clearly. You are doing a national service. It is not fair for me to say you should carry on as it costs me nothing to cheer you on. If you quit, we lose a malaysian that often speak our mind. Ponder over your original objective, are you achiveing it? In my opinion, you are doing a great job.

"...if there is one thing that I hope to have achieved with this blog, it is that I have raised some of the issues that concern ordinary people like me,..." You asked if you have achieved that. IMHO, yes you have.
I do not always agree with your views but I have almost always (I use almost only because I doubt my powers of recollection) enjoyed your postings. By putting your views into the public arena, you run the risk of those that are offended by your opinions taking action against you. Whether "they" can or will take action against you and what form those actions would take for the present remains speculation. Knowing our country's history, such speculation can very quickly turn into reality TV. I certainly symphatise with your concerns and Jeff Ooi's little fandango with the authorities not so long ago brought the message home loud and clear.
So, your fear of "losing everything" IMHO is very well grounded. Franklin Roosevelt said "Only thing we have to fear is fear itself". With all due respect to the late FDR, he wasnt Malaysian. All the more so, your efforts are very much appreciated by this reader who for selfish reasons would like to see you continue.
I believe that your postings afford your readers an avenue to discuss/debate issues that would not otherwise be talked about. I also believe that rational civil discourse about issues is the only way to proceed if we are to not descend into violence over whatever disagreements we may have. Lest I give you the wrong impression, I do not mean to suggest that you have such an extensive reach that your blog can solve all our problems. Nevertheless, everyone that reads you blog should be enriched by it, unless they are mentally challenged or have other agendas.
Posted by: kswong at August 6, 2006 08:01 PM
Aisehman, I think I can understand how you feel. No one says it is gonna be easy, but it will definitely be worth it. The journey of blogging can be lonesome and tiring, but I'm sure the satisfaction is always there. Jeff Ooi is definitely right in saying 'Malaysia needs more Aisehmen to blog'. You asked if you have achieved your objective, the answer is YES, of course. Well done, and keep up the good work!

You might have noticed how many who have written in response to your latest posting indicating their support...but more importantly, that they don't agree with you all the time. That said.. is a good sign because it shows there's often balance in what you have to say.
Ultimately, you must take care of yourself, your family and loved ones. Do what you can...cos if each of us do our little bit...we can make an impact towards making Malaysia a better place for ALL it's people.

I discover blogs like yours, Screenshots, Malaysia Today and the likes a few months ago.
My perception of current affairs have totally changed since then. I have since no longer rely on the mainstream media (newspapers, TV and radio) for news.
Since my discovery of these blogs, I have been coming on to check for updates several times a day for alternative opinions on certain afairs.
It certainly give us a better insight into issues.
Please do not stop blogging.
I (and I believe a lot of other bloggers) will certainly curse the government if they ever attempt to block the growth of these blogs.

I'm the silent reader who cannot remain silent anymore if this comment meant anything. You did a GREAT job. I cannot ask you to continue blogging if you do not wish to. But, if blogging is what you like, restassured your faithful readers are right here. :-)

Aisehman,
Please continue.

Aisehman,
Your decision to start blogging in 2003 was rather perceptive in the sense that you recognised the power of technology will have on our society in matters of social or political interests and the means to communicate such issues in an efficient and interactive manner.
Mainstream media can never duplicate this phenomena.
The latest trend of bloggers cross referencing their post(s) with other bloggers so that readers can review differing opinions contribute immensely on the maturing aspects of Malaysians.
Freedom of speech is gaining momentum here with blogs providing the best platform for intellectual discourse. You, sir, have made it thus far with your own brand-style but to use a cliche, "perjuangan belum selesai".
FOS is a gift that must be nurtured with utmost care and I sincerely believe, in your hands, it will be for the betterment of Malaysia.

Referred by Jeff Ooi's blog and have added it to my list of daily blogs to read.
Am looking forward to be apprised of the behind-the scene maneuvers in the Malaysian political landscape.

Keep on writing. Whether what we write make any difference or not, that's not our job. Nor does it matter anyway. The One up there does things His own way. Have faith.

I'm not very familiar with your blog but I can say this: the need for alternative sources of information in Malaysia is high, and you seem to be a significant factor in meeting this need. You can be proud of yourself.
From another perspective, keeping such a regular and informative blog such as yours takes a lot of time and effort - you may be tiring yourself out. One option would be to regulate your number of posts - e.g. one good one every two days, rather than always doing your best to react to all the events you find noteworthy.
Botak makes an important point when he says "You are not your blog". Also, you might want to have a think about what it is you really want from writing this blog: whatever expectations you have of those who read your blog are your own, and you shouldn't be surprised or feel offended if they react in ways you do not want. You don't owe us anything, and we don't owe you anything - except thanks for your work I suppose :)

i like to read you blog and "YES" is the answer to your question. I'll exercise my rights to vote in the next coming election. Keep up the good work, my friend.

Bloggers are like candles, burning themselves providing light for other people. They need tonnes of passion to go on. It is thankless and endless job. Readers know that. Keep on blogging. Raise issues beyond race, religion, without fear or favour.

Hi Aisehman!
The whole of Sunday, while shuttling from one place to another, this thought kept nagging me – I must find time to write a line or two in Aisehman’s blog. Just look at the time now, and you know how serious I am.
Bloggers like you keep the fire in me burning. Please I beg you, keep our fire roaring, keep our hopes aglow.
If you take a hiatus again, I’ll shoot you dead!

Keep it up Aisehman (I mean blogging not 'retirement'). There are always mountains and beasts around to deter you. We need more honest and straight forward folks to voice out the common men's frustrations. I hope you will continue with your journey.

Every morning and evening, I read your's and Jeff's blog. Since 2004, I cannot relate to the newspapers and evening TV news. You have to be a Yes-Man to read the papers nowadays. I may not agreed with you all the time, but unlike the papers, you and Jeff allow comments. Please continue to toil and inspire. Same goes to Jeff.

BlogLeh! Jangan tak!
Of all the blogs, yours I look forward to each time. Aisehman.org keeps me going on our quest towards a "New Malaysia" (Qualifier: I mean a new mindset not as in memberontak. Whew!).
You'd be one good political show host. When we have a mature country.
2020?
No?

Dear Aisehman,
I have been an avid reader of your blog, more than I care to admit. But that is not the point.
I can feel your passion to want to continue but doubts creep in because of FEAR from the Powerful executive (you know who they are).
Let me just say that I appreciate your contribution to malaysia by your blogspace and you have my full support. Please follow your heart.
History will remember you as one of the pioneer in changing the mindset of Malaysians in the cyberspace (and maybe the ruling elite for the better).

Please keep on blogging! I have you marked as one of my favourite web sites!
But all said, take care to remain anonymous and cover your tracks. It looks like the government is really serious about clamping down on the truth. Sad to say, Pak Lah is backtracking on all his promises to be open and transparent. At this rate, he is turning out to be the worst prime minister we have ever had in Malaysia.
