Know Your Enemy
Now this is hilarious:
A peddler of pirated DVDs picked the wrong customer when he approached the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister, Datuk Shafie Apdal, who was having a drink in Bangsar Baru last week.He offered Shafie a wide range of the latest movie titles costing between RM8 and RM12 each.
Shafie immediately called his men and told them to find out about the man’s operation and arrest him.
... "He ... said that he did not recognise Shafie and that he had approached him like he did any other customer," [Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry assistant director Abdul Madi Wahab] said.[New Straits Times]
Shafie probably almost choked on his drink when the guy offered him the goods.
I mean, he must have muttered under his breath like, "Dude, not in front of everyone. These people know me!"
Only joking, Datuk. Only joking.

On one hand, I am assured that small-time criminals are not sophisticated enough to know the top people that influence their activities are. On the other hand, there are so literally tens of thousands of hawkers, peddlers out there and if this young man reflect their ignorance, they reflect the ignorance of entire class of people and that is bad for us all.

Very sorry Datuk Shafie Apdal, the small fish in the business cannot recognize you. As long as the big fishes know you - there should be no problems for them eh?

i would have said no, too. i mean,if the dvd the peddler sells you is rosak, how are you going to find him and get a replacement or your money back? what i always do - and i'd recommend this to the honorable minister - is to buy from the shops. at least got guarantee, mah. and better selection! i don't expect the shopkeeper to recognise shafie, either, so it'll be safe for him to shop for pirated dics at the proper shop. by the way, does he know that all the shops in lucky garden bangsar, bangsar utama, and bangsar baru sell ONLY pirated discs? i buy them all the time. but when i buy local discs, i buy original. shafie and his ministry should really go for those who peddle discs by local singers and local moviemakers.

x06editor,
I totally agree with your opinion. But why should the esteemed Minister buy pirated DVDs when he can buy original ones with his big fat pay? We poor souls on our poor salaries - paying taxes(to pay the ministers inturn), without even the luxury of extra wives(like the ministers) can only buy pirated DVDs to entertain our humble souls!

Ai Seh Man
as long as this fellows cari makan without snatching anyone's bag, killing, stealing or robbery, ok lah, kasi chan sikit..
Just imagine the MBA thief Azeez Rahim on yesterday STAR front page next to Pak Lah, even Najib had to take a back seat for him, still cari makan in the name of UM no Putra , a known gangster, extortionist, pistol whipper, false bio data to get into UM no youth Exco, KJ's bodyguard and muscle supplier, if he is allowed to carry on despite all the publicity and expose by Aisehman, than Shafie Apdal give chan lah to this poor honest earner , at least he did not force anyone to buy at gun point.
MBA thief Azeez is roaming freely like a parasite enriching himself from someone's else red cells and yet all ok...
I have lost my respect for Pak Lah for condoning such miscreants, what happen to his motto " DONT WORK FOR ME BUT WORK WITH ME " yah lah MBA thief Azeez the slimy black horse is doing just that and I heard Azeez is given some big deal on the Halal Expo... I call this Halal da Halal, better buy pirated DVD than MBA lah..
