TV Drama on 3G

You gotta be amazed at this:

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has awarded 3G licences to TTDotcom Sdn Bhd and MiTV Corporation Sdn Bhd.

DiGi Telecommunuications Sdn Bhd, one of three applicants for the two licences up for grabs, was not successful in its bid for 3G spectrum. [The Star]

Someone explain to me how DiGi can lose out to MiTV?

This is a joke. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is a joke.

And DiGi is upset:

We would be extremely surprised by such a decision if this is confirmed, and we will immediately seek clarity from the MCMC on this matter.

DiGi is in a strong position in Malaysia with its widest high speed mobile coverage and advanced mobile solutions, financial capacity and extraordinarily committed employees. [DiGi website]

And I agree. So again, how did DiGi lose out to MiTV?

Anyone? Vinny?

timedotcom does not even have a mobile network, but is part of the UEM group, of which Khazanah Nasional is a shareholder.

bah, this is all an obvious bias against foreign companies.

DiGi has even signed a letter of intent with Siemens... blARGH!

I am a Digi user. I went for Digi because after Mahathir gave Vincent Tan the license, he subcontracted it to some whitemen whose sense of whitemen's burden should to my calculation give me the least headache in usage and application. So far so good for the first prepaid - no bogus overcharging bills unless my time with Celcom, Mobikom and the ATUR 450 nightmare. Since Digi is still white, so I guess the 3G license just has to go to a non-white like Vincent Tan who can subcontract it to well Digi again?

They do not deserve it. They are already too rich and wealth must be shared and distributed to the crony group.

Digi wants 3G? Easy. Give some shares to Khazanah or make Scomi its local partner. If Digi appoints Khairi Jamaludin as a director, its chances of getting 3G will be greatly enhanced. And don,t forget to make ECM Libra, who is KJ's employer, your advisor, Digi. Sure lapat G-spot also.

Shall we wait for MCMC's official reply before we blast them ?

Maybe MiTV will sell it to Digi and make a cut? This is after all Malaysia, where we are told to be prudent and reduce wastage and promised transparency. But then the govt is not transparent and dish out things like this to unrelevant parties. why?

After reading MCMC's comments (my apologies for being rather out of date as I was out of country recently), I agree that the decision defies logic and unfair to DIGI.

MCMC's action could have serious repercusssion to Malaysian companies operating overseas. Foreign governments will be watching and will try to do the same to firms like Celcom and Maxis.

If we want to give priority to local companies why then not make this known upfront before the application process ?
