Really Special

So much money for a SpecOps training centre?

Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) akan membina sebuah kompleks latihan serba canggih bernilai RM1 bilion di Bentong, Pahang khusus untuk melatih anggota Pasukan Gerakan Khas (PGK).

Pemangku Pengarah Keselamatan Dalam Negeri dan Ketenteraman Awam (KDN/KA), Deputi Komisioner (DCP) Mohd. Anuar Md. Zain berkata, pihaknya telah memohon peruntukan untuk membina kompleks tersebut di bawah Rancangan Malaysia Kesembilan (RMK-9). [Utusan Malaysia]

I'm not trying to denigrate the police force here, but heck, RM1billion is equivalent to the amount the Government just saved on about 3,333,333,333 litres of subsidised petrol.

BTW I'm introducing a new unit of currency that will hopefully help us all adjust more quickly to the new economic environment.

It's called the LESSUP (pronounced like the Malay word "lesap", which means "vanished") or Litre Equivalent Savings of SUbsidised Petrol.

One LESSUP is worth 30sen. For instance, before its abuse came under the glare of publicity, car APs were reportedly worth as much as LESSUP100,000 each.

Heck, who's to say they aren't still worth that much?

As someone familiar with SpecOps, I think there is something obviously wrong here. Is it really Rm 1 Bil or just Rm 100 M ? If it is the former I agree that this is far too excessive.

Why can't they make use the Army's new Special Warfare Center at Mersing ? As far as I know the syallabus of the PDRM's PGK and the rest of SFs in the Armed Forces should be similar at least for the basic selection and training phases.

Even UTK can benefit by working and training with certain units in the Armed Forces (which shall remain nameless for obvious reasons).

Sharing facilities, equipments and trainers not only optimizes cost but also improve communication and teamwork among the various units as well as raise the overall standards.

Got to know your blog through screenshot, and I like your down to earth aisehman approach.I guess you are a well educated and moderate malay, screenshot is a well educated hot blooded chinese, and I am a felda grown kampong chinese whom has more malay friends and speak better bahasa than most malays.
Though dissapointed at times, I vote BN for the so called stability. I sell good malaysia images to foreigners more and better then most of our ministers. I got used to obey the sysntem and do well through hardworks. When my malay classmates from sekolah menengah sains went oversea or matriculation, I slogged through HSC and went to local university. Today I pay more income tax than most malaysian anual wage.
We need all the real malaysian to provide some check and balance to the ruling goverment, cases like parties whom immediately jump in to screw up the unrealised planned saving of petroleum subsidy for an example.
Screenshot is definitely too arrogant in his blog approach, but I beleive most of us deep down know that he is not spreading hatred. The number one Malaysian and Asian blogger should learn to be more humble, and I am sure he does not deserve the ISA treatment. We need more people like him, working hand in hand, for better Malaysia.

Use the money to raise cops' salary and general welfare lah. We pay them so little and don't take care of them, and at the same time we blame them for our rasuah culture and their lack of dedication. In Singapore the cops are so well-paid and taken care of, which is partly why they aren't as corrupt. An even better use for the billion ringgit is to build micro homes for the poor throughout the nation for I believe that with the way the govt is running the economy, a lot of us will be living below the poverty line real soon.

I alway hold a believed that billions save by the gomen is billions ready to be spend for ....... (fill in the blank) that will benefit the ........ (fill in the blank) but not for the poor rakyat who shall remain to be poor. To be govern by the mismanage gomen.

And I still hold true to that believe until the day come when my creator call upon me.

God, Pls have mercy on Malaysia.

I agree with your suggestion that the various units in the uniformed forces should share the training facilities. Otherwise, sooner or later, the immigration, customs, air force, navy and other lesser known units will want to have their RM1b training centres. Can we really afford that?

There is a real danger of Malaysia ending up like the US with too many Special Ops units mushrooming and tripping over each other all over the place.....soon everyone will be building their own facilities using my hard-earned money.

GGK (the Army SF) has world-class facility in Mersing that attracts even the British and the American SFs among others.

For CQB, GGK's center is pretty good while Paskal's Lumut complex is highly regarded with all the cutting edge facilities and equipments.

I really don't see why PGK need its own facility. Someone from PDRM/PGK enlighten us please..

I think it is best to spend that amount of money in improving the service of our Polis, better housing, better pay and better working condition. They are doing a great job of keeping the peace and harmony of this country, so their pay should be raised to double what they are getting now..decentralized the management like those in States..decentralization would create a more responsible Police Department, thus would increase productive..translate to a better image of this important and great institution of ours.

i think we should consider pegging the ringgit to the lessup or if not, then a managed float of the lessup against a basket of other similar currencies. :)

I share the same views with tanglimara
not that PGK don't need the training, but sharing facilities would facilitate better integration between the SF teams (ATM and PDRM)
what about the Sepang complex, was that another project or just an old proposal (relocated to this one)?
