Opening Salvo

UPDATE

Speak of the Doctor:

"If he wants to do it (sue), he can do so. He can sue me or whatever, that's his right," he said when asked to comment on reports that Anwar threatened to sue him for making the accusation.

... Dr Mahathir said he had yet to ascertain the motive behind Anwar's threat to sue him.

Dr Mahathir also stressed that the "decision by Umno's Supreme Council to expel Anwar (as deputy president of Umno) was based on the evidence available before the council and not the book entitled "50 Dalil Kenapa Anwar Tidak Boleh Jadi PM".

... "This is not the case of whether the court has decided or not. This was our decision. We are and were convinced and we acted on the information that we have," he said.

"Umno Supreme Council took that decision (to sack Anwar). He was there in the Supreme Council meeting and was given an opportunity to explain.

All the others heard him and they gave their views and their decision was he was no longer fit to be in the (party's) Supreme Council," he said. [Bernama via Daily Express: Dr M: Up to Anwar to sue]

I have an idea: why not let the Umno Supreme Council handle all criminal trials in this country.

The learned politicians there seem to very good at meting out justice, especially during Dr M's time, I've been told.

*****

Here we go:

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has served a letter of demand to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad seeking for an apology and compensation in relation to the defamatory words allegedly uttered by the former Prime Minister.

The letter of demand was served by Anwar's lawyer S.N.Nair to Dr Mahathir's solicitors, V.K.Lingam & Co, about 12.45pm Friday at the firm's office in Menara Berjaya at KL Plaza in Kuala Lumpur.

... The content of the letter of demand also stated that Anwar's lawyers had instructions from Anwar to institute legal proceedings if the demand was not adhered. [Bernama: Anwar's Letter of Demand Served on Dr Mahathir]

The ball is in the Old Man's court now.

I still think that Anwar is not gonna get anything out of Dr M, but I can't wait to listen to his response.

This looks like it's gonna go all the way.

I think so too. It's going to go all the way. There will be a new drama series soon. There is certainly no lack of excitement. :)

I like this. What were the Superomos doing, when Rafidah was involved some years back, Samy with his shares problem, even the latest Ap thing, were these things not brought to their attention, or was it selective privilege. Now the DG thing. The arms for National service, middle ring road, toll, etc etc, you mean to say the Supers don't know about these. What a dhame!

I hope this two fine gentlemen won't steal to much of our precious time. We still have a lot to do to push the country forward for our own good.

The wily old fox just let you know his defense which was that someone else also said it first and hence at best he can be persecuted for perpetuating a heresay not libel.

Thats the tragedy of this country isnt it? We have enough problems as it is and we will all be held hostage to the media frenzy when this 2 goes to court.
Yep u can rely on the Dr M to go down in flames rather than submit.
He has better evidence than AG on the sodomy?
