Approved Abuse

This might be true:

Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz has stressed there was no abuse in the issuance of Approved Permits (APs) to bring in imported cars as the decision on successful applications were made based in a transparent and objective manner. [Bernama: No Abuse In APs Issuance, Says Rafidah]

But isn't the AP policy itself an abuse?

It has benefitted few people outside the group of the usual suspects.

And together with other protectionist policies in the auto industry, it has cost so many Malaysians so much money.

So, the process is transparent. Hmmm.. Yeah. Transparently corrupt for sure. Common Sec-Gen of her ministry? I like to know who are all the people that applied and did not get it compared to those who did get it. Simple question. How many people on the list is NOT related to UMNO? zero, zilch

About 8 months ago, I had to send my 6 year old K 4wd to the P service centre when the engine oil warning indicator kept coming on. I was charged more than RM1k to have the sensor replaced.

The problem recurred after about 2 mths and they have been at it since then. They have admitted that the sensor wasn't damaged in the first place and had to strip my engine to find out the cause (which was an oil leak). In the process they broke my exhaust pipe (they claimed that it was already corroded), my car stalled in the middle of the road while my wife was driving it back from the service centre and 3 weeks ago had a massive oil leak cause puddle of oil in my porch. All in all, my car spent about 3 weeks in the workshop during the last 3 months.

A manager at the service centre told my wife (and he stressed that it was off the record) that it was typical for a local 6 yr old car to experience these problems, despite the fact that the mileage on my car is only 120K km after 6 yrs and is regularly serviced at their own service centre.

He hinted (to my wife) that if I wanted a better car I should consider an imported (continental or Japanese) one. If not for the APs, I would have.

Pls tell me that I had not been screwed.

You have been screwed and so are all of us. The National car Industry is doomed to fail and all of us are going to pay for it. It's pretty obvious the industry lack the economy of scale and can only survive under protection from the government. The people have paid enough protection money, it has to stop full stop.
